ONE of the common questions I receive from people who have read my book Conversations With Mediums is, "What books have you read that you would recommend?"
It's a good question. In preparing for and during this book project I read plenty, in fact, I had my head in the clouds every night and that wasn't from just sleeping. I read and I read and I read. Still do.
So from about 60 books I sunk my eyes and brain into over a few years, which ones stand out? It's a hard call, but here are 5 that really hit the spot for me in different ways:
1. The Four Agreements (don Miguel Ruiz). Following traditional Toltec wisdom beliefs, Ruiz says these four agreements in life are essential steps on the path to personal freedom. As beliefs are transformed through maintaining these agreements, the shamanic teacher believes lives will "become filled with grace, peace, and unconditional love".
2. The Seat of the Soul (Gary Zukav). Zukav says our souls evolve as we develop our own latent powers. This extraordinary book looks closely at cases of multi-sensory individuals, conventional marriages and spiritual partnerships and at traditional and spiritual psychology. It's profound.
3. Journey of Souls (Dr Michael Newton). This one made me go back and read it again. And again. What more intriguing topic than the mystery of life in the spirit world after death on Earth? Dr Newton claims through studying hundreds of subjects that it offers proof that our consciousness survives. Using a special hypnosis technique to reach the hidden memories of subjects, Dr Newton discovered some amazing insights into what happens to us between lives.
4. Power V Force (Dr David R. Hawkins) Sir David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D. is a renowned psychiatrist, physician, researcher, spiritual teacher and lecturer. He is uniquely qualified to present a spiritual path that is scientifically compelling to modern society. A compelling read, and one that requires revisiting a few times if your brain doesn't digest it first go like mine.
5. The Power of Now (Eckhart Tolle). In simple terms, a self-help guide for day-to-day living and a focus on the importance of living in the present moment and avoiding thoughts of the past or future. Intense, but powerful stuff.
